Music
Music adds richness to the life of Iona. We are passionate and committed to engage and develop the talents and skills of our students.
The music program is designed to encourage every student to reach their full potential. We are proud of the roles our musicians, their ensembles and bands play in the life of the college preforming at events, in competitions and contributing to college celebrations.
Numerous performance groups are offered and include six levels of Concert Bands, two levels of Jazz Stage Bands, String Orchestras and Vocal Ensembles, as well as Percussion Ensembles and the Symphony Orchestra. The College has a reputation of the highest calibre for its performance standard and is highly awarded within the acclaimed Queensland Catholic College’s Music Festival and the Prestige Music Festival.
Iona provides a Music program that allows all students, regardless of age or ability, to be involved. The College has a very strong academic program in music, with many boys electing to study music in their senior years as an OP-eligible subject.
We encourage all students to take up an instrument, even if they have never played one before. Even the most basic understanding of music within children and adolescents can have a positive effect on academic and social skills. The mental concentration and self-paced learning associated with music helps to develop among others, memory, visual, aural and language skills.
