NEW BUILDING ON THE WAY FOR IONA COLLEGE TO MEET PRIMARY ENROLMENT DEMAND

NEW BUILDING ON THE WAY FOR IONA COLLEGE TO MEET PRIMARY ENROLMENT DEMAND

Responding to community demand, Iona College is pleased to announce we will shortly begin construction of a new extension to the Primary Building to create contemporary learning spaces for 21st century learning.

The new project, built in conjunction with Conrad Gargett Architects and Tomkins Commercial and Industrial Builders, will create purpose-built facilities designed specifically for our Year 5 and Year 6 students.

Since 1957, the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and the families of Iona have worked shoulder-to-shoulder to create facilities that meet the needs of students and the community we serve.

This latest major investment is in response to community demand for greater enrolment opportunities at Iona College. With demand and waiting lists in place for secondary enrolment, Iona has acknowledged the need for greater intake capacity at Primary level.

The Primary block redevelopment is in response to that demand, and will see Iona’s focus on new enrolments shift from entry in Year 7 to increasing the number of families starting their Iona journey in Year 5.

This project is planned to begin soon for completion by the start of the 2024 school year.

Enrolments for the Year 5 intake in 2025 are now open,
and applications will close on Friday 2 June, 2023.

If your son is currently in Year 3, and you would like him
to join the Iona community in 2025,

The construction of four flexible learning classrooms with connecting verandahs, a lift and outdoor learning spaces connected to the existing building enables our entire Primary community to be connected, and close in proximity.

This allows for the sharing of resources and activities more readily and easily, while also supporting the Primary staff to teach collaboratively, involving teachers working together in the same space with multiple classes.

The addition of an undercroft area will give students even more space to play and unwind during free time, and with the new amenities being so close to the sporting fields, the area will also serve visitors to the College during weekend sport.

The extension to Primary will fit neatly between the student handball courts / ovals and the existing building – creating a true Primary Precinct area that is unique and distinct from the Secondary part of the College.
