Iona Sailing

"It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go". Jim Rohn

Sailing enjoys a rapidly growing profile within Iona’s co-curricular program and the number of schoolboy sailors participating in the sport continues to increase. The College operates the Iona College Sailing School which provides basic skills in sailing emphasising safety and boat handling and teaches racing skills for students progressing to Team Racing.

The Iona College Sailing Club is fully affiliated to Yachting Queensland and Yachting Australia. Through these memberships Iona is eligible to participate in any racing event in Australia and internationally. Competing in the National Championships in 2015, our College Sailing Team achieved an excellent second placing.  In 2016, under difficult conditions in Goolwa, South Australia, Iona came a respectable 12th in the nation and the best performing Queensland school.

Term 1 and Term 4 hosts the Secondary Schools Team Racing competition.
