Iona’s Anzac Day Ceremony

24 April 2017 Iona College

Iona’s Anzac Day Ceremony

The focus of our service was to remember and say thank you for the incredible sacrifices offered by our Defence Forces in order to protect our freedoms.

Some of the wonderful features of the ceremony included:

  • An acknowledgement of Indigenous Australians and their unique place within the core of Australian culture
  • Moving visual tribute of students with Defence Force relatives
  • The welcoming of Old Boys who were returned servicemen
  • Student representatives
  • Beautiful choral arrangements helping capture the various moods and tones
  • Including language and texts from German and Turkish sources to help continue the pursuit of peace
  • Bible reflections that enabled the boys to see the connection of the Easter story of resurrection and hope
  • The singing of the New Zealand National Anthem in Maori and English, as well as the Australian National Anthem
  • A minute’s silence that was full of reverence and gratitude.
