In Year 9, students commence a two-year program of studies which leads to the end of compulsory years of education.  This is an important phase of learning as students build the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for success in the senior years.

All students study six core subjects:

  • History

In addition, students choose three elective subjects which provide them with an opportunity to explore and discover their own particular talents and interests.  Currently, students can choose from the following electives in Years 9 and 10:

  • Enrichment Science
  • Japanese
  • Enrichment Mathematics

Year 10

Year 10 is considered a transition year into the senior phase of schooling. This is an important preparation year and students are supported to reflect on the pathways they may like to pursue after school. At Iona, we work closely with families in Year 10 to help students select pathways appropriate for their individual skills and abilities and to ensure that they are ready to advance to the next stage of their schooling.
